The South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal is an ultra-popular year-round favourite for tourists from South Africa and around the world. The area stretches from Amanzimtoti to Port Edward, and is a golfer’s paradise, featuring many 18-hole courses, two of which are rated amongst the top 10 in the country. If golf is not your game, then you can choose from sub-tropical forests, blue lagoons, golden beaches, rocky coves, surfing, whie-water rafting, angling, rock-climbing, mountain biking, abseiling at Oribi Gorge, or diving at some of the best dive sites in the world (Aliwal Shoal and Protea Banks).
Every Winter, there is the phenomenon of the Sardine Run (also known as “The Greatest Shoal on Earth”) when literally millions of sardines migrate east along the coast in the direction of Durban. They are accompanied by whales, sharks and dolphins, as well as thousands of gamefish and sea birds, creating a never-to-be-forgotten spectacle.
